A BID to introduce a referendum on Suffolk County Council’s plans to outsource services has been defeated.
Green Party councillor Mark Ereira-Guyer, who represents the Tower division, had put forward a motion to allow Suffolk residents to vote electronically on whether they supported the authority’s divestment policy.
However, the proposal was quashed at a meeting of the full council with a vote of 42 against and eight in favour.
Cllr Ereira-Guyer said: “The arithmetic is that of a large Conservative majority. When you aren’t a majority group, you can only flag these things up as a possibility.”
