A HORSE which is on the rare breeds critical list has been welcomed, earlier than expected, to a West Suffolk farm.

Owners of Rede Hall Farm Park, Chris and Nigel Oakley, have been buzzing with excitement after the birth of a Suffolk horse on their farm.

Daisy, the foal of Withersfield Ruby, was born at 11.30pm on Saturday, four days earlier than expected and just hours before Mr and Mrs Oakley returned from a short break in Ireland.

“We thought we would get back in time and were expecting to see her foaling but we were absolutely delighted, so pleased everything went well – Ruby’s a wonderful mother,” said Mrs Oakley.

“The foal was suckling by the time we came home,” she added.

Daisy is the 25th live Suffolk horse born so far this year, as recorded by the Suffolk Horse Society.

Mr and Mrs Oakley hope to breed their stallion, Ruby’s son, Withersfield Captain, next year.
