Rained off band back in village

THE clouds had a silver lining for the fund raisers of Welnetham Community Centre.

A rock concert and the village’s annual vintage car and tractor rally in June had to be cancelled due to torrential rain.

But the silver lining was created by band leader Jacen Bruce whose band Memphis Underground was booked to appear in the centre the night before the rally and whose author wife Alison Bruce was to have talked about her DC Goodhew crime novels during the event.

Having stayed overnight in a caravan at the site, Jacen offered to return at a later date, to stage another dance for a reduced fee, as an additional fund raising event for the centre.

“Of course we were delighted to accept his unexpected and generous offer, the only problem we had was finding a date that would fit in with the band’s busy schedule,” said event organiser Peter Royce.

Jacen Bruce and the Memphis Underground will be returning Saturday September 8. Tickets are £6.50 on the door or pre booked, doors open at 7pm for 8pm start.
