PUPILS at a Thetford school have been shown how, even out of war, a Special Relationship can blossom.

With the prompting of American governor Candace Bassille, Redcastle Furze School held its Independence Day celebrations last Friday.

Dr Andy Sheppard, headteacher, said US and UK relations showed children how friendships could survive even the biggest fall-outs.

“We take the point of view that we were good friends with the Americans, we fell out, and then we became friends again. We try and relate that to how the children behave in the classroom, the playground and at home,” he said.

Dr Sheppard also confirmed that the school’s name will be changing to Redcastle Family School in September.
