PRIMARY school children on Moreton Hall were given a taste of the Paralympics on Tuesday.

Jill Anderson, head coach of the Bury Bombers’ wheelchair basketball team, and husband Barry, manager of the first team, taught pupils at Abbots Green Primary School how to use wheelchairs while co-ordinating their ball skills.

The session was arranged as part of the school’s London Olympics 2012 project, with the children playing wheelchair basketball at the end.

“It’s about putting able bodied and disabled people together for a fun sport – the children love it,” said Mrs Anderson.

The enthusiastic couple, whose wheelchair-bound son has been signed to play professionally, said it was important for children to know that disabled people can compete in a highly skilled sport.
