Two horses were killed in road collisions on the A143 at Botesdale on Friday night after their field gate was left open.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said today: “It’s thought the horses may have escaped from the field, which has a public right of way through it, after a gate was left open or it’s possible there may have been an attempt to take the animals.”

One horse was killed in a collision while the other had to be put down after receiving serious injuries.

Police are urging walkers to ensure gates are secured and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call PC Stephen Duffell on 101.
