AN AIRLINE pilot’s feet will be planted firmly on the ground as she competes in the Austrian Ironman Triathlon.
Hayley Brewis, 48, of Pinford End is taking on the challenge, which combines a 3,800 metre swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon to raise money for brain cancer charity Louby’s Lifeline.
The charity was set up by Hayley’s daughter Lucy’s best friend Laura who died of a brain tumour in February aged 18.
Hayley said: “It seems the right moment to stop this happening to others in the future and stop what Hayley’s father Phill has been through.”
Laura and Lucy were both born in West Suffolk Hospital one week apart and attended Moreton Hall Prep School together before Laura moved to Yorkshire with her mother.
Laura set up the charity to raise money for Brain Tumour Research and Support Across Yorkshire, a charity that helped her while she fought cancer.
So far, Louby’s Lifeline has raised more than £11,000.
Hayley is currently training for 15 hours a week for the challenge which takes place on June 1.
