A petition has been started calling for Suffolk County Council to scrap charges for 16-year-olds requiring transport to school.
The online petition, started by Louise Cullen of Chelmondiston, says “It is not fair to punish children and families for living in rural communities. The sixth forms are all in town so free for town children and yet rural families must pay to send their children to compulsory education.”
The county charges 16-year-olds £180 a term for transport but the petitio n argues that should change now they have to stay at school to 18.
It gathered more than 400 signatures in its first week and can be found at www.change.org
