Peer becomes art patron

A PEER with a lifelong interest in the arts has become a patron of Bury St Edmunds contemporary art gallery, Smiths Row.

Baron Smith of Finsbury – former MP Chris Smith – joins the gallery at a time when it is attracting a record number of visitors and has been shortlisted for a People and Environment Award for its work in reducing its carbon footprint.

Lord Smith said: “It’s an honour and a delight to become a patron of this wonderful contemporary gallery. We Smiths have to stick together, after all, and Smiths Row is rapidly establishing itself as a space where innovation, quality and contemporary creativity come together. It’s a terrific asset, not only for Bury but, for the whole region.”
