The Passion Play scheduled to take place in Bury St Edmunds on Good Friday has been put back to April 18, next year.
Churches Together in Bury and District have run Passion Plays in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2011, with thousands turning out to watch the depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus.
This year’s event, scheduled for March 29, has been put back to April 18, 2014, to coincide with a year-long series of celebrations to mark next year’s centenary of the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.
It was also thought that bad weather conditions this year could have made the event unsafe.
The Rev Jonathan Ford, vicar at Christ Church, on the Moreton Hall estate, said he hoped people would not be too disappointed.
“We look forward to recruiting cast and members later on this year for what we hope will be a spectacular celebration in 2014,” he said.
