When Margaret Hurrell popped into the Five Bells pub, in Rattlesden, for a quick drink before work little did she realise she would meet her future husband Leslie.
She remembers: “We went out with each other one afternoon and from then on we kept together.”
Mr and Mrs Hurrell, 83 and 80, of Rattlesden, recently marked their diamond wedding anniversary.
To celebrate they visited Wetheringsett Church where they married, enjoyed lunch in Onehouse and welcomed family over the weekend.
When asked about the secret to a successful marriage, Mrs Hurrell said: “If you have a row you get over it and make up. You’re not going to agree all of the time but you forgive and forget.
“Family life keeps you young. Our family means more to us than anything.”
They have two daughters, three grandsons, a granddaughter and 11 great-grandchildren.
For a time, Mr Hurrell worked as a milkman on a farm in Rattlesden and his wife worked in service doing housework in Needham Market.
