TWO Bardwell women are going the extra mile – or rather the extra 240 miles – to raise money for the Macular Disease Society, a charity that helps people with central vision impairment.
Sara Trowell, a GP in Bury St Edmunds, and Suzanne Combes, a teacher at Ixworth Middle School, plan to cycle from London to Paris on June 22, starting in Bexley, south London, and arriving in Paris three days later, having cycled 240 miles.
Dr Trowell said: “Macular degeneration is the commonest cause of loss of sight in the western world and mainly affects older people.
“I want to help support their work as three generations of my family have been affected by it – my mum, grandmother and great grandmother.”
Mick’s Cycles, in St John’s Street, Bury, has agreed to sponsor the pair in the form of cycling kits for their journey.
