THIRTEEN new priests and deacons have taken up roles within Suffolk after being ordained at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, in Bury St Edmunds, last weekend.

The Rt Rev Nigel Stock, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, welcomed those at the beginning of their ministries, as a deacon or priest.

He said: “Immediately before the ordinations all the candidates have been on retreat, giving them time and space to reflect on their vocation.

“I hope and pray that they will find every fulfilment in the rich experience of ministering in God’s Church today.”

The new clergy include deacon the Rev David Carpenter, from Bury, priests the Rev Paul Clarke, from Haughley, and the Rev Matthew Lawson and the Rev Philip Payne, from Bury. Already ordained, the Rev Liz Kirby, from Bury, was licensed as assistant curate.
