Andy Banham’s tale is one of inspiration.
The 43-year-old is helping marginalised adults to turn their lives around by giving them the high-tech machinery they need.
Nothing extra special in that, you may think. But Mr Banham is a recovering alcoholic whose 20-year struggle with drink saw him end up homeless.
Bury rehab charity Focus 12 helped him out of his spiral of destruction and he says he hasn’t looked back since.
As if that wasn’t enough of a personal triumph, Mr Banham then looked to help others who found themselves in a similar position to fight back.
St Edmundsbury council has helped hugely with his scheme – but the selfless way he has gone about helping others should be a wake-up call to us all.
Too often, many of us will cross the road rather than offer the hand of help and friendship. We should all take a leaf out of Mr Banham’s book.
