I had the great pleasure on Friday of attending the unveiling of a new prostate ultrasound scanner at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
You bought this excellent machine thanks to the staggering £66,000 raised through our Beat It! appeal last year. And as you smashed through the initial target of £55,000, an upgraded machine was purchased which is one of only two in the east and 10 in the UK.
It’s encouraging for everyone when an appeal like this culminates in such a resounding success.
But the longer-lasting delights of Beat It! were in two other areas. The appeal and its publicity saw us break down a taboo, with men talking more openly about their bodies. As a result, those same men are now getting themselves checked out.
