Consistency reigns for Glasswell

For their Snetterton race meeting held last weekend, the Historic Sports CC welcomed Bury-based SG Machining Solutions as the sponsor of two races which combined the Classic Racing Cars with Historic Formula Ford 2000, writes Arthur Debenham.

For Stephen Glasswell, it was to be the FF2000 category that saw his Reynard SF 79 line up in P6 for both events.

In race one, he was involved in a group of four cars fighting it out for third to sixth positions.

As the race reached its conclusion, only 0.2 seconds covered the best lap recorded by each of them, with Glasswell retaining his sixth position throughout.

Race two saw Glasswell making a slow start, but after dropping back to eighth, sixth was once again restored.

Looking to further improve his position, a race incident delayed him against but, with a strong drive to the finish, sixth was once again recovered.

Whenever his work commitments at Team Leos Motorsport allow, Matt Ellis climbs into his Citroen Saxo VTR to compete himself.

His most recent outing was for the BARC meeting held at Brands Hatch, which saw him contesting the Quaife Saloon Car Championship.

From a field of 28, he qualified 23rd - sixth in class.

During race one, he improved on this and when red flags stopped the race he was up to 19th and fifth in class.

With a result declared at this point, any further move up the order was prevented.

However, race two provided the opportunity to achieve this and he took it.

As the chequered flag appeared, his overall position was 13th and he was just one second away from a third-placed podium in his class.

SHORT CIRCUIT

The most recent round of the Safari Land Rover Superstox Series took place at Aldershot, as the venue hosted the Brian Street Memorial event.

With Matt Carberry concentrating on the Motorsport Show in Bury, it was left to Jason and Sarah Cooper to uphold local honours, and this did so in fine style.

For Jason, it was to see improvement as the meeting progressed, with a fourth place in heat one followed by a second position in his second heat.

Meanwhile, Sarah remained consistent with two eighth positions.

In the all-important final, it was Jason who led the field home, with Sarah improving to seventh.

The latest points charts available form Spedeworth show Jason as leader of the Safari Series and the National points chart, while Sarah is joint fifth in the National.

RALLYING

The interest in classic and historic cars continues to grow (as does their value) and Chelmsford MC will be taking a look at this from a somewhat different approach, as they run their East Anglian Classic Rally on June 19.

Starting and finishing at Elsenham Golf Club near Stansted Airport, the event will be a qualifying round of the Historic Rally Car Register Championship, and takes in a 130-mile route through Essex, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

It is a daytime rally with the first car leaving the start at 9am.

Local entry comes from Duncan and Laura Christmas, in their 1298cc Austin Mini.
