With its picture-perfect rows of terraced houses and shrouded in a veil of countryside tranquility despite being just a hair’s breadth from the town centre, it’s easy to see why Well Street is one of the most desirable spots to live in Bury.
What arguably makes it one of the ‘most sought-after addresses’ in the UK though – as trumpeted by The Times recently – is more than just bricks and mortar but its close community spirit.
It’s a street almost from a bygone era where everyone knows their neighbours and residents take action through gardening group Growing Well, lend a helping hand to those who need it and hold their own street parties.
While an avid user of my tablet and smart phone, I sometimes fear the art of conversation and direct human interaction is being lost in the digital age.
We could all take a leaf out of Well Street’s community driven dialogue and can-do spirit.
