Have your say

Regardless of your political persuasion, I was always taught to work hard, be fair yet firm and do what you can to help others – individualism will only take you so far in this often unequal world.

Based on some of the human tales in this week’s paper, Bury is leading the way on acts of selflessness.

Vet Heather Bentley is going where no one has gone before by scaling an unclimbed peak in Nepal in aid of a cancer support centre. Residents on the Nowton estate did their bit to keep their neighbourhood tidy and inspire future generations to look after their environment. And Southgate Church celebrated its 40th anniversary by doing what it does best – bringing people together.

In an age where mobile devices and social media are meant to bring us closer I sometimes feel it can breed isolationism –in which we’re obsessed with our own internal world.

Human connections and sensibility are what is needed to make a difference.
