Ofsted was forced to change a school’s inspection date after it accidentally sent notice of it to a school governor.

It was alleged the mistake related to three schools, Thetford, Ormiston Victory and Great Yarmouth Primary academies, but Osted’s investigation showed it only involved Great Yarmouth and was spotted in time to avoid risk of the school getting more than the usual half-day notice of a visit.

The date was emailed in April to Dame Rachel de Souza, then chairman of governors at Great Yarmouth, who had joined Ofsted as a part-time seconded inspector a few days before.

Ofsted’s director of quality and training Sir Robin Bosher said there was no evidence the three schools had improperly received prior notice of inspections.
