A VILLAGE has sown the seeds for a lasting tribute to the Diamond Jubilee with a commemorative oak tree.

Schoolchildren, parish and borough councillors and residents gathered at Aggies Piece, in Barningham, to plant the memento for the landmark celebrations.

It is part of an initiative by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, which is providing parishes with oak trees for the Jubilee.

During the planting, Gladys Marsh, one of the village’s longest serving members, gave a short speech. Brenda Last, chairman of Barningham Parish Council, said: “We’re quite keen on increasing the number of trees around the village.”
