This year’s Race For Life at Nowton Park is now open to people to enter and this year offers a 10k course as well as the traditional 5k circuit.

Last year, more than 2,700 women took part in the event and raised a fantastic £162,168.

This year’s event will be staged on Sunday June 22 with two 5k runs morning and afternoon and the 10k event happening in the afternoon.

Cancer Research UK is aiming to have more than 3,000 women walking, running or jogging around the grassland course and raising £182,200.

The charity’s Bury St Edmunds events manager Rachel Parratt said: “We know how committed Bury St Edmunds women can be when they really make up their minds to do something. We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks by raising money for life-saving research.

“Race for Life is non competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can chose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.

“Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease. There are over 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all.”
