A NIGHT-TIME market is all set to launch in Thetford after it was given the go ahead.
The Thetford Night Market is the first venture for SoRT iT – the School of Radical Thought in Thetford – and will make its debut on Tuesday night from 5.30pm until 9.30pm.
Thetford Town Council gave the initiative the thumbs up at a special meeting last Wednesday.
Jo Cooper, organiser, said SoRT iT hoped the market would spark new footfall and benefit the high street.
“The aim of the Night Market initiative is to bring to Thetford a regular event during the summer at a time that many will hopefully be able to attend. The event will aim to bring a buzz and something different to the town, and will be enjoyable for the whole family,” she said.
Shoppers will be able to enjoy a variety of stalls, including local crafts and food vendors, according to SoRT iT.
There will also be live music from local groups and artists.
Tuesday will see Daisy Windsor’s band, Wytchazle and Thetford band, .1normal, appearing.
Ron Wood, entertainment manager for the market, said: “We are proud to be featuring local artists at the Thetford Night Market and I am so pleased to offer an opportunity for Thetford to hear some of the talent that this area has to offer.
“All of the artists have music CDs for sale and these will also be available to buy on the night,” he said.
Future markets will also feature outside broadcasts from Radio Thetford as well as morris dancers and other street entertainment.
