A WOMAN has completed the Great North Run to raise money for St Peter’s Church in Thurston to help them hoist up a new bell for the tower.

Nicola Fallows, 28, raised £400 by asking her clients at the Thurston Hair Studio for sponsorship.

Nicola said she wanted to raise money for a truly local cause.

She said: “It was fate that made me decide to raise money for St Peter’s.

“The morning I was looking for who to raise money for, a letter from the church committe came through the door.

“I was looking to contribute to something local and this seemed perfect.”

The new bell, from St Albans Cathedral, was paid for by an anonymous donation but the church commitee need more than £8,000 to transport the bell and put it in place in the tower.

The bell will complete the peel of six bells in the tower.

Daloni Peel, from St Peter’s Church commitee, said: “Nicola raised £400 for the project which is a marvellous contribution.

“It is a wonderful village project and it is great to have people getting involved.

“I am sure the bells will sound great once the final bell has been installed.”
