A NEW meeting place for people with the early stages of dementia or memory loss has opened in Bury St Edmunds.
The Bury St Edmunds Memory Cafe is a joint project between the Alzheimer’s Society and the caring charity Gatehouse and will open every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at The Gatehouse, Detingen way.
The idea is to give people a relaxed, friendly and social atmosphere in which they can meet and support each other. Attendance is only by referral from one of the two charities and costs £2.50 a session, including refreshments.
The Alzheimer’s Society says one in three over 65s will die with dementia. Gatehouse provides day care for the vulnerable elderly.
