STOWMARKET Concert Band is celebrating its 50th anniversary in September - by asking former band members to rejoin them for a special concert.
The event, on September 22 at the United Refrom Church in Stowmarket, will celebrate the club which originally formed in 1962 as the Stowmarket Schools Concert Band.
Four years later, the band opened up to people of all ages and was renamed the Stowmarket Concert Band.
Former members are being asked to get in contact so they can join in with the festivities.
The anniversary day will be centred around a concert at 3pm where they will showcase the past, present and future of the organisation.
Past members are also invited to dust off their horns and join in at the concert.
Committee member Polly Sinclair said it was important to give children the opportunity to learn how to play instruments and to play alongside other musicians.
She said: “There was a time when the band was very large as it was still based at school but numbers went down. But over the last few years we are up to having two bands again and have now have 25 people in our training band. “It is a great way to get children into playing an instrument and playing with other people.
“It is very important to provide free teaching and practice for people who want to get involved.
“We have five or six people who have started in the training band and are now full time concert band performers.
“Our conductor, who was once in the band himself decided it was so much fun he would return to conduct the band in his retirement.
“The main band performs concerts and gets paid for it and that money goes back into training band.
“We have lots of social events we attend together - we are quite a close knit group and it is so much fun to be part of.”
Invitations have been sent out to former band members but if you wish to get involved contact Richard Chapman at email@example.com
Tickets for the concert can be bought at www.stowmarketconcertband.co.uk, at the Stowmarket Tourist Information Office or on the door.
