The Mayor of St Edmundsbury graced an ice rink for the first time in his life - taking ‘a little stroll’ in his shoes rather than donning skates.

Dressed in his ceremonial robes, Cllr Patrick Chung decided to try out the new feature in the arc shopping centre, which has atttracted hundreds of people since it opened.

OurBuryStEdmunds facilitated the use of the rink for a group of disabled users from the Leading Lives group ANL-151218-125614001

Cllr Chung said: “I went on with my shoes to see how I felt about the ice first and from that I thought it would be alright as you walk on ice when it’s winter.

“It was a nice experience to have a little stroll. It’s great fun no doubt about it - scary but a challenge.

“I would like to do it again and do it properly.”

The ice rink was brought to the arc by town centre improvement organisation OurBuryStEdmunds.

It is open every day, except Christmas Day, until January 3. Skating sessions run until 6pm every evening and 9pm on Tuesdays when parking is free after 3pm.

Tickets cost £8.50 for a session, which includes half an hour on the ice and free skate hire. Tickets for children aged 12 and under are £5.50 and a family ticket for four is £22.50. To book online visit www.ourburystedmunds.com/icerink or contact the Apex box office. When the box office is closed tickets may be purchased at the rink.
