PLANS to construct a 3m steel communication mast at a police station in Bury St Edmunds have been put on hold by council planning chiefs.
Suffolk Constabulary wanted to install the mast at its station in Raingate Street to boost its communications network.
But concerns were raised the mast will obscure the view of the cathedral from the south.
A council spokeswoman said the committee deferred the plans, asking for more information on the project including details of other systems that could be put in place instead and a photo montage of the effect on the view.
Abbeygate councillor Paul Farmer said: “I think the committee is right to ask for more information.”
