When Clare Steadman attempts the 13.1 mile challenge of the Great North Run next month, she will sport the hopes, loves and memories of others.

Running in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care, the 43-year-old will wear a skirt emblazoned with pink ribbons carrying messages of support for patients and their families, for a lost loved one or just for hope in the future.

She is now appealing for people’s messages in exchange for a donation.

Miss Steadman, who will take on the marathon on Sepetmber 15 for the first time after deferring last year due to injury, said: “I will do the hard work but they will have the thought behind it.” To make a donation and write a message, visit www.justgiving.com/claresteadmanGNR
