The manager of a Mildenhall charity shop was shocked to find out she had won a £10,000 prize thanks to the postcode lottery.
Val Firth was surprised at her West Row home by rugby legend Scott Quinnell who presented her with her prize.
She said: “When Scott first pulled the cheque out of the envelope I was thrilled as I thought it said I’d won £1,000.
“I was gobsmacked when I realised there was an extra zero and it was actually £10,000.”
Mrs Firth has managed Age UK’s Mildenhall shop for 14 years.
She began playing the People’s Postcode Lottery in July.
She said: “I never really expected to win anything though as I never win anything - not even raffles.”
Val and her husband were both had colds when they were told about the prize so were unable to celebrate.
She said: “As soon as we both feel better, we’ll probably go out for a meal. I’m starting to think about possible holidays now we have some extra cash. I’ve always wanted to go to Sicily.”
People’s Postcode Ambassador Scott Quinnell said: “It was lovely meeting Val and presenting her with her nice big cheque.
“She was over the moon when she thought she’s won £1,000, I thought she was going to collapse when she saw it was £10,000.
“I really hope she spends the money on something nice.”
