MAJOR gas pipe replacement works are set to hit the centre of Bury St Edmunds next year.
National Grid is set to carry out the work, which will see much of the existing supply network replaced, from April.
The work is expected to take a year to complete – St Edmundsbury borough and county council officers are already talking to National Grid in a bid to limit the disruption to residents, businesses and traffic.
National Grid was unable to give any details on the work this week.
However, a report to the borough’s Bury area working party, which meets on Tuesday, reveals that the replacement work is expected to impact on more than 30 roads in the town centre.
