THERE is a chance to enjoy some of the delights of Ickworth Park while raising money for St Nicholas Hospice Care next week.

The second annual Lunch at the West Wing, on October 2, has been organised by the hospice’s Bury Friends Group.

“The West Wing is a beautiful location and we are going to make the most of the lovely surroundings,” said Bridget Alexander, from the friends group.

“The day will start with shopping, coffee and a talk from Sue Ellis, of the National Trust, about the history of Ickworth House.

“Then, after lunch, there will be a talk from Sean Reid, head gardener, about the Italianate garden, which is one of the earliest of its kind in the country.”

The event includes a tour.

There will also be a chance to shop at stalls selling everything from shoes, handbags, jewellery and clothes, through to chutneys, jams and the hospice’s own Christmas cards and diaries.

Tickets cost £35. Last year’s lunch raised £3,500.

The friends have also organised a bridge event for October 5 at the Risbygate Sports Club – it costs £8 per player and includes teas.

And there is a cheese and wine quiz at Hawstead Village Hall on October 26. Tickets cost £15.
