A long-serving governor at West Suffolk College has been honoured with an MBE recognising his services to further education.
Alan Gordon-Stables , who has served on the Bury St Edmunds college’s finance committee for more than 24 years, was presented with the award by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
He said the event was ‘wonderful - the right balance of pomp in magnificent surroundings conducted by HRH Prince Charles with solemnity, tempered with gracious good humour that quickly put recipients of the various honours at their ease’.
Mr Gordon-Stables has also served on the estates committee which has overseen major improvements to the college campus including the new Gateway building.
He said the award reflects the ‘tremendous spirit of co-operation between the governors, principal, senior management team and entire staff who work tirelessly to ensure the best possible educational experience for all’.
