A parish council chairman has appeared in court charged with committing two assaults.

James Andrew Arnold, of Potash Road, Wyverstone, near Stowmarket, pleaded guilty at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court today to one charge of assault by beating, committed between November 1 and November 30 last year.

Arnold, 49, denied carrying out the same offence against another on March 27 this year.

He was remanded in custody until his trial for the alleged assault, which is due to take place on June 6.

He will not be sentenced for the earlier assault until the outcome of those proceedings.

The Wyverstone chairman is also due before Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday in relation to four firearms offences.
