Work will start on a long awaited Puffin crossing in Moreton Hall at the end of the month.
Suffolk County Council has issued a traffic order for Bedingfield Way to be closed between Easlea and Symonds Roads, for the weekends of August 30 and 31 and September 6 and 7, then overnight on September 17, for the work to be done.
Borough councillor Trevor Beckwith campaigned for the crossing said: “Obviously there’s going to be disruption, but it’s good news. It’s a great improvement for people walking around the area.
“It’s been over a year too long in coming because they came up with so many different schemes they couldn’t put there because of speeds.”
Schemes have included two zebra crossing designs, then the Puffin was due to be installed in early April but was delayed because of additional design work, the need to move a bus shelter and ordering times for the lights.
