A woman in her 20s was still in a critical condition today after a crash which closed Stow Lane, Stowlangtoft, yesterday afternoon.
Police, who described her injuries yesterday as ‘life threatening’, said this morning her condition is ‘critical but stable’ at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, to which she was flown by air ambulance with head, chest and pelvic injuries.
Police, fire, ambulance and Suffolk Accident Rescue Service were called to the crash involving a Vauxhall Corsa and Volkswagen Polo between 2.30pm and 2.45pm.
One of the cars started to fill with smoke, though it did not catch fire.
Fire crews from Ixworth, Elmswell and Bury St Edmunds worked to free the woman from the car.
Two other people with minor injuries were taken to West Suffolk Hospital.
