A women’s group in Bury St Edmunds has donated hundreds of pounds to charity Clic Sargent.

On Monday, Bury’s Women’s Guild of Friends (WGF) handed a cheque for £800 to the charity, which supports seriously ill children.

The group, formerly the Women’s Gas federation, currently has around 80 members and raised the money through raffles, an auction and donations.

Its chairman Pam Hart said the auction raised an impressive £300 in just one hour.

Of Clic Sargent, she said: “I chose that charity because I have had cancer in my family and I can’t think of anything more stressful than having a child with that disease - the amount of running around, taking to hospitals, the treatment.”

“I think it’s such a wonderful charity and needs more publicity,” she added.

The group meets at the Oddfellows Hall in Whiting Street on the fourth Monday of each month, at 2.30pm.
