West End and Broadway star Ruthie Henshall was in Bury St Edmunds today to launch the new Suffolk Wellbeing Service.

The service aims to provide a range of self-help techniques, therapies and interventions to help people manage common problems such as stress, anxiety and depression without having to visit a GP.

Ruthie, famous for her lead role in hit musicals such as A Chorus Line, Cats and Chicago, launched the service by unveiling a ‘Wellbeing Tree Sapling’.

She said: “This service is incredibly important.

“In this country we have the tendency that if we cannot see it, we don’t acknowledge it.

“We still have this stiff upper lip which makes mental illness harder for us to admit.

“We have got organisations for cancer, for MS, for many different physical illnesses.

“There should be somwhere where people can go for help with mental illness too.”
