Waitrose in Bury St is inviting shoppers to nominate groups and projects which make an outstanding ocntribution to their community through music.

Music Matters has been launched at the store as part of the company’s nationwide scheme which provides between £500 and £3,000 for projects considered worthy of funding help.

Organisations who could benefit include choirs and orchestras, bands and ensembles, or anyone looking to start a musical group. Grants are also available to help schools teach music to young children.

Jane Gunsmand, community organiser at Waitrose in Bury, said: “We are looking to help any group or organisation, no matter how small or an individual who is making that extra contribution to their community and hope people will nominate very worthy recipients.”

Each store nominates suitable recipients and provides a suitable brief before the final selection is made at Waitrose head office.

Last year Amp and Deck, which runs music workshops for young people in the community as well as sessions at The Rehearsal Rooms in St Andrews Street South, received funding from the scheme.

So if you know of worthwhile music makers pick up a form from the Welcome desk. Nominations must be in by March 21.
