Police say the A11 is closed in both directions between Barton Mills and Red Lodge following an accident.

Police were called just after 2pm today by the Fire Service with a report that there had been a collision involving two lorries and a car.

Police say one man was trapped in one of the vehicles and dealt with by doctors and paramedics at the scene.

East of England Ambulance Service say the man, who is believed to be in his 30s, suffered serious trauma injuries and was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, for emergency treatment accompanied by the air ambulance’s medic.

All emergency services are in attendance and the A11 is closed in both directions whilst the incident is being dealt with.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

The agency was already warning of delays on the northbound side of the A11 from Newmarket to Thetford before the accident due to heavy traffic.
