Unsung heroes were honoured at the Ninth Mid Suffolk Community Achievement Awards on March 20. The event recognised the effort of groups who strive to make a difference in their communities.
The event, on March 20 at the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts in Stowmarket, recognised the effort of groups who strive to make a difference in their communities.
Among those honoured were Rattlesden River Working Group, Ian Toulson from Stanton, John Wiley from Woolpit, Shirley Woollard from Stowmarket, David Hudson from Coddenham, Lionel Coe from Stoke Ash and Debbie Cadman from Needham Market.
Jenny Eason from Redgrave, Philip Aldous form Westhorpe, Stewart Dorward from Stowmarket, Sheila Miles from Burgate, Robert Laight from Combs and Barbara Morris from Thurston also received awards with Penny and Des Kelly from Thurston, Sarah Payne from Wetheringsett and Rick Langford from Stowupland completing the list of community champions.
Councillor Lesley Mayes, Chairman of Mid Suffolk District Council, who presented the awards, said: “These awards give us the opportunity to say thank you to someone in the local community who deserves recognition and praise for their efforts.
“I am extremely pleased to be able to meet the people that can make a big difference in their local community and to be celebrating with them.
“Their vital contribution is an example for us all.
“Without their selfless dedication, our quality of life would be much diminished.”
