Travellers have moved onto the Parkway surface car park in Bury St Edmunds.
The group, which has been pitching up on sites across the town, were previously based on St Andrew’s Street car park.
They were served a section 78 order by St Edmundsbury Borough Council on Thursday giving them 24 hours to leave the site.
A spokeswoman for the authority said they are now beginning the criminal legal process to remove them from Parkway.
St Edmundsbury is also preparing a civil case to apply for pre-emptive injunctions from the High Court to prevent further occupation of council owned sites.
The estimated price tag for seeking each of the legal measures, which last for as long as the court deems necessary, is between £2,000 to £3,000.
