Pupils at Thurston Primary School have been presented with bibles by the charity Bibles for Children at a special assembley.
The Rev Alan Gates gave out the bibles, which have colourful illustrations, to 115 children in Years 2 to 5.
Headteacher Kathy Lambert said the bibles would be used for quiet reading, RE and could be taken home by the children. They also help support bible stories which are told in school and would be a colourful stimulus promoting the ethos of the Church of England school.
She said: “We do a lot of the stories that Jesus told and it’s really important for our children to understand these and the ethos of the school. These are hard backed illustrated bibles which I’m sure they will enjoy.”
The school is hoping to extend the project so that each child in next year’s Year 2 intake will receive a bible.
