Thousands filled the streets of Stowmarket on Saturday to cheer the annual carnival procession as it snaked its way through the town.

Floats and groups marched from the PPG Paint Factory to the town’s Recreation Ground with record numbers lining the procession route.

Carnival Chairman Justine Margetson said the day had been a tremendous success.

“It was absolutely fantastic”, she said, “a complete success, all of it.

“This year’s procession was really good as were the events at the recreation ground.

“We had the funfair, a petting zoo, a craft tent for the children - the children’s faces when they realised they could get their faces painted for free was priceless.

“We had a lot more people in the town than last year by all accounts.

“When I went into the market place it was heaving.

“We had more people and more businesses involved this year which was fantastic.”

Justine said the highlight of the day was the appearance of Hollywood horse Augustus, who played young Joey in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar nominated film Warhorse.

“The star of the show was definitely Augustus - he was a huge hit.”

“Lots of people came to the Recreation Ground just to see him.”
