More than 2,000 people are expected to descend on Bury St Edmunds for the return of the vivid and powerful Good Friday Passion Play on April 18.

It will start at St Edmundsbury Cathedral at 10.30am and proceed to The Apex where a trial will be held before proceeding to the Abbey Gardens for the crucifixion.

The Rev Jonathan Ford said Angel Hill and roads to and from Abbeygate Street will be closed briefly to allow for the procession between 10.30 and 10.45am as well as 11.15 to 11.35am.

He said: “It is a great joy to have the opportunity to stage this event for the fifth time.

“We have received enthusiastic support from St Edmundsbury Borough Council, local churches and St John’s Ambulance to help us stage this event.”
