Children at Redcastle Family School, in St Martin’s Way, Thetford, have been given a new incentive to attend every day - a large soft toy.

Staff at the town’s Brewers Paint Shop have presented the school with a large sheep dog teddy, sourced from Dulux, to help with pupils’ attendance.

Each week, classes compete for the best attendance and the winning class gets to look after the dog the following week.

The first winner, Year 3, also got the responsibilty of naming ‘him’ - RuFuS now has his photograph alongside that of teachers on the school notice board.

Stressing the importance of attendance, headteacher Dr Andy Sheppard said: “If children don’t attend, we can’t teach them and they quickly start to fall behind”.
