The last of this year’s Thetford Historical Character Walks is due to take place on Sunday.
Featuring interesting characters who have played a part in the town’s history, the walk - guided by Charles Burrell - will take participants around the Priory area, starting at the Charles Burrell Museum at 2pm (meet at 1.45pm).
Characters include the Duchess of Norfolk whose family were buried in the Priory, Catherine of Aragon who visited the Priory in 1513 along with her daughter Princess Mary and a monk from yesteryear telling of miracles and murder through the centuries.
Visitors may also encounter a visiting nun, General Haig whose troops were camped in the area in 1912, a Home Guard soldier, a lighterman who worked the rivers and a Viking settler from the time of Sweyn Forkbeard.
The scripts for all the walks have been written by Stuart Wright, a member of the Thetford Players and the Mayor of Thetford.
As this is the last walk of the year, pre-booking is strongly recommended.
The walks will return in 2014 following their success over the last two years.
Tickets cost £6 each or £20 for a family ticket of up to four people, one of whom must be under the age of 16.
They can be purchased by calling 01842 751975, online at www.thetfordplayers.co.uk/new_productions.html or by visiting The Leaping Hare Tourist Office, in Belmont House, King Street, Thetford, which is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm.
