In a quiet village lies a firm at the heart of developments in everything from North Sea oil to Formula One cars gliding around the racetrack.

Gammax Independent Inspection Services in Depden has just celebrated investments in equipment and staff.

The firm run by William and Liz Brennan, has just bought an advanced ultrasonic set – the latest piece of kit for detecting corrison in large tanks and defects in welds.

“We carry out weekly inspections for items that go into the Norwegian sector of the North Sea,” said Mr Brennan.

“We’ve even radiographed live Hellfire missles at an army base and tested the chassis of classic Formula One racing cars.”

On Friday, MP for West Suffolk Matthew Hancock presented Tom Donohoe with his foundation degree in non destructive testing. Gammax funded his university fees and are also paying for him to complete a BSc degree.
