Four teenagers responsible for a fire that destroyed buildings at a former garage in Barton Mills have been identified by police.

Five crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze at Fiveways roundabout at about 6.30pm on March 16.

A wooden outbuilding was completely destroyed and three other buildings were damaged.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Police has said the four teenagers will be dealt with by way of a community resolution, which will include an apology to the fire service.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue service said: “We are pleased that our colleagues in Suffolk Police have apprehended the teenagers responsible. Our firefighters are putting themselves at risk every time they attend an incident such as this.

“While we are attending this type of fire we could have been required to attend a life threatening emergency elsewhere but would have had to send appliances from further away as five crews were on site in Barton Mills.

“Not only is this behaviour a risk to life of the individuals themselves, but someone else in or near the building could have been hurt.”
