If anyone thought it ‘puppy love’ when June and Dennis Blofield met in their teens, they have proved them wrong.

When they met at the roller skating rink in Bury St Edmunds Corn Exchange she was 14 and he was 17.

They married five years later at St Mary’s Church and celebrated their Diamond Wedding on Tuesday.

Though June, 79, says some people said they were too young to marry, they proved them wrong. Now she and Dennis, 82, have three children, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, the youngest born only days ago.

June was born in Bury and Dennis in Bradfield St George, where they now live.

“We’ve moved around since we got married,” June said. “We lived in West Row for four years, then moved to Bradfield St George in a different house, then to Rougham and back to Bradfield.”

In that time, Dennis has gone from selling cycles to being a farm worker then going into civil engineering.

June’s advice to young couples is: “Try and work things out between you. Don’t get too stressed about any worries because you get through it.”
