St Edmundsbury Borough Council is to ‘invest to save’ by ploughing £425,000 into upgrading its CCTV system and relocating its control room.
The authority’s cabinet approved the move as the equipment is becoming ‘obsolete and needs replacing’.
The control room would move to West Suffolk House.
Council bosses say they can make more money from the service by working with businesses, other councils and gaining potential funding from the police.
A report to the cabinet said the move will ‘yield increased external income thereby reducing the cost to the council of providing the service’.
